Johann-Michael-Haydn-Society
On August 10, 1983 the Johann-Michael-Haydn-Society was constituted in Salzburg and under the chairmanship of LH Dr. Wilfried Haslauer set itself the following goals:
- In the precincts of the Archabbey of St. Peter in Salzburg a permanent exhibition, together with the presentation of a film show, should remind visitors of the importance of the great musician Johann Michael Haydn, also called “the Salzburg Haydn”.
- Concerts with music by Michael Haydn and his contemporaries should give young musicians the possibility to orientate themselves along Salzburg’s great tradition and to gather experience on a small platform.
- “Sources of the music history of Salzburg”, especially of Johann Michael Haydn, should be traced and unpublished works should be published in the series called “Denkmäler der Musik in Salzburg”.
In 1984, the Johann-Michael-Haydn-Museum, situated in one of the courtyards of the Abbey of St. Peter in Salzburg, was opened for the first time presenting an exhibition and a slide-show.
