On 10 August 1983 the Johann-Michael-Haydn-Society was founded. Its main aim has always been that of a museum that shows the importance of Michael Haydn’s life and work as a leading musician in Salzburg between the years 1763 and 1806. |

Additionally, the society organizes recitals with young musicians and supports research work on the Music History of Salzburg, which is published in a musicological series called “Denkmäler der Musik in Salzburg” later on. Michael Haydn’s life, his work and times are being displayed in a (since 2006) newly-designed exhibition at the Johann-Michael-Haydn-Museum in the courtyard of the Abbey of St. Peter in Salzburg:
